We are excited to announce our firm’s role as Legal Advisor to Athens International Airport S.A. on securing RRF loan financing for flagship landmark investments powering the airport’s bold “ROUTE 2025” Net Zero Transformation. AIA is setting a new European benchmark in sustainable aviation, targeting 100% on-site renewable electricity and the elimination of direct emissions—an ambition that places the airport at the forefront of the continent’s green transition.
The financing supports the development of a state-of-the-art 35.5 MWp Photovoltaic Park with an 82 MWh Battery Energy Storage System, as well as the airport-wide replacement of natural-gas heating systems with high-efficiency Heat Pumps. With a total investment exceeding €44 million, co-funded by the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility – NextGenerationEU, these projects form the backbone of AIA’s strategic shift toward energy autonomy and climate neutrality.
