Our Managing Partner Nicolas Kanellopoulos, in his capacity as Secretary General of the Hellenic Ukrainian Chamber, had the honour of delivering the opening address at The Energy Corridors Conference organized on July 16th in Hotel Grande Bretagne Athens.
In his remarks, Mr. Kanellopoulos, emphasized that the Chamber is following developments in the energy sector with particular interest, recognizing that Ukraine’s reconstruction — once peace is achieved — will constitute one of the largest energy and infrastructure undertakings in modern European history. He noted that this involves an energy system that must be rebuilt almost entirely from the ground up, encompassing transmission networks, power generation facilities, storage infrastructure, and digital management systems. Greece, he added, with its expertise in energy infrastructure, shipping, construction, and renewable energy sources, can and should play a central role in this process.
The Energy Corridors Summit underscored the pivotal role of Greece and Cyprus as the two principal pillars supporting the energy architecture of the Eastern Mediterranean. At a time when energy security, the diversification of supply sources, and the emergence of new energy flows are exerting considerable influence over geopolitical alignments, both nations occupy a central position within an evolving strategic framework connecting Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the United States. The conference gathered government officials, transmission and system operators, international energy corporations, maritime and shipping enterprises, investors, and relevant institutions who examined ongoing developments in energy corridors, infrastructure projects, maritime transport, exploration initiatives, and the broader transition toward sustainable energy.
