We were proud that our Managing partner Nicolas Kanellopoulos participated at the BEYOND 2026 conference, held on June 17th at Metropolitan Expo, Athens, as part of the special forum organised by the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (ΚΕΔΕ) on “Municipalities in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Digital Governance at the Service of Citizens.”
Mr Kanellopoulos contributed to the panel on Artificial Intelligence in Local Government, highlighting the growing complexity of the regulatory landscape — from GDPR and NIS2 to the EU AI Act — and its practical implications for municipalities. As local authorities stand on the front line of citizens’ everyday needs, they are increasingly exposed to asymmetric digital threats that can seriously disrupt the delivery of public services. Compliance with this evolving framework is not merely a legal obligation — it is a prerequisite for resilient, effective governance.

At NKLAW, our extensive experience advising public sector entities on data protection and cybersecurity compliance gives us a clear picture of the challenges municipalities face: limited budgets, shortage of specialised personnel, and the need for coherent, well-documented compliance frameworks. We remain committed to supporting local authorities in building the digital resilience they need — because when it comes to protecting citizens, readiness is everything.
